Throughout the years, the Choral Society has maintained a consistent program of supporting a variety of Volusia County groups such as Habitat for Humanity, the Conklin Center for the Blind, and Mental Health organizations, in addition to supporting music education through the annual award of the Dorothea Waddel Tonnesen Scholarship Award.

The Choral Society is funded mainly by dues collected from its members. However, additional funds are solicited from other interested persons and businesses. Funds are also requested in the form of a grant application to the Arts Council of Volusia County. Part of the requirement to obtain such grant from the Arts Council is that we bring our music to the entire County in the form of an outreach program. Hence, to fulfill this obligation, several mini-concerts are offered throughout the year to groups who are not able to attend our major concerts.

The DBCS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Corporation, and operates within formal Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws. Membership dues, augmented by donations from concerts, interested persons, businesses, and The Arts Council of Volusia County, currently fund the Society.
