BASS

I was born in Detroit, Michigan and still spend summers in Northern Michigan. I graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Following graduation, I worked for 30 years
for the General Motors Corporation at their technical center in Warren, Michigan as an Engineering Manager in engine design and development.

Following retirement from GM, I worked for ten years as a consultant to The University of Michigan Office for the Study of Automotive Transportation and co-authored
three books on forecasts of future automotive technology.

I was married for 51 years to my wife Bonnie, who died in 2013. We have two children; a son who is a jeweler in Ormond Beach, Florida and a daughter, who is an optometrist in Aiken, South Carolina. My daughter is mother to my grandson, who is in graduate school at Clemson University studying Civil Engineering.

Following retirement, Bonnie and I spent summers in northern Michigan and winters in Boulder, Colorado, where our son and her parents also lived.

We enjoyed skiing and hiking in the mountains, and the Colorado sun, which is absent in the winter in Michigan. After Bonnie’s death, my son and I both moved to Ormond Beach in 2015.

I have sung in a church choir all my adult life. I currently sing in the Ormond Beach Presbyterian church choir in the Winter and the Petoskey United Methodist church choir in the Summer.

I sang in a Gospel quartet for several years when I was in my 20’s. I also sang in a choir from the Detroit Bible College that performed the Messiah.

During my time in Boulder, Colorado, I sang with
the Rocky Mountain Chorale, a group of about 75 members.

I have been in the Daytona Beach Choral Society since 2016 and was invited to join by a member of the Ormond Beach Presbyterian church choir.

My favorite singer is Josh Groban. Other interests include playing the piano, fishing, hunting, boating, photography, golf, study of the Bible, and hiking.

I once walked 235 miles on trail across the upper part of Michigan’s lower peninsula with a friend.

I am happy to be a part of the Daytona Beach Choral Society.
